What is Intercitrus
Intercitrus is an interprofessional organisation that brings together different actors in the Spanish citrus sector, including producers, traders and processors. Its main objective is to coordinate and promote joint actions to improve the competitiveness of the citrus sector, focusing on aspects such as promotion, quality and research.
What are the Spanish agri-food cooperatives
Agri-food cooperatives in Spain are associations of agricultural producers that work together to improve the profitability and sustainability of their activities. These cooperatives cover various areas such as production, processing and marketing of agricultural products, and are fundamental to rural development and the country's agricultural economy.
Agri-food cooperatives leave Intercitrus
Spain's agri-food cooperatives have decided to leave Intercitrus due to stagnation in the organisation. Cirilo Arnandis, president of the Citrus Working Group of Agri-food Cooperatives, emphasised that no agreements have been reached on the standardisation of sales contracts or on the relaunch of promotional activities, which are crucial in the face of the drop in citrus consumption. Despite this withdrawal, the cooperatives maintain their commitment to the sector and are looking to make progress in key areas such as innovation and sustainability. The decision has been communicated to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Regional Ministry of Agriculture.
