Saturday's storms cause millions in damage to citrus crops in Plana Baixa

The heavy hailstorms that fell last Saturday have seriously affected citrus crops in the Plana Baixa region, with particular impact on municipalities such as Nules, La Vilavella, Moncofa and La Vall d'Uixó. The hailstones, concentrated in very localised areas, have caused damage to up to 100% of production in some plots.

Agricultural organisations such as LA UNIÓ and AVA-ASAJA warn that the losses will run into millions and are calling for a swift response from the authorities. Their demands include urgent improvements to the agricultural insurance system and the implementation of direct aid to enable affected farmers to continue their activities.

At Cocalni, we stand in solidarity with all affected producers and reiterate the need to strengthen mechanisms to protect the Valencian countryside from the effects of climate change.
