Storm DANA in the Comunitat Valenciana: Floods, roads cut off and school closures

The DANA (Isolated High Level Depression) that is sweeping across the Valencia region has caused multiple incidents. The torrential rains have led the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) to activate a red alert in the northernmost area of the province of Valencia, where rainfall of up to 100 litres per square metre is expected in a single hour.

Impact on infrastructure and road closures

Heavy rains have forced several roads to be closed in Castellón, including the CV-200 between Almedíjar and Aín, and the CV-148 en Borseral. También se han cerrado la A-7 and the A-3 in the province of Valencia, linking the Valencia region with Alicante and Madrid, respectively, due to heavy downpours. These closures have caused significant delays and difficulties for drivers, who face detours and long waiting times.

Municipalities confined and classes suspended

In several towns in the province of Castellón, the authorities have decided to suspend classes for safety reasons. In addition, municipalities in La Ribera in Valencia have been isolated due to flooding, and there have been cases of residents trapped in their homes. The port of Valencia has also been closed to maritime traffic.

Forecasts and recommendations

The Aemet forecasts that the rains will continue throughout the week, with Tuesday and Wednesday being the days with the greatest risk of heavy rainfall and possible thunderstorms. In view of these conditions, citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep informed through official emergency channels.
