DANA

Consequences of the DANA in the Valencia Region

This week, the passage of the DANA through the Comunitat Valenciana has left notable damage in the Plana Alta and La Ribera regions.

In Plana Alta, Castellón, the combination of heavy rain, wind and hail has knocked down up to 70% of almonds in some areas. In La Ribera, Valencia, it is not far behind, with a strip of about five kilometres affected by hail and wind, damaging citrus and persimmons.

AVA-ASAJA asks Agroseguro to speed up the assessments and the administrations to provide direct aid. Although rain is necessary to alleviate the drought, the balance between benefit and damage is delicate.

This DANA underlines the vulnerability of the agricultural sector to extreme weather events, reminding us of the importance of adaptation strategies and government support.
