mosca oriental de la fruta

A new threat to citrus fruits has been detected in Spain: the oriental fruit fly

The Farmers’ Union has issued a warning following the detection in Cantabria of the oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis), one of the most dangerous pests for numerous fruit crops, including citrus fruits. According to the agricultural organisation, this invasive species poses a serious threat due to its high reproductive capacity and ability to spread, as well as the significant economic damage it could cause to the agricultural sector if it were to spread to citrus-producing areas such as the Valencian Community.

The sector stresses the need to step up phytosanitary controls and act swiftly to prevent the spread of this pest. Early detection and constant monitoring are essential to protect crops and ensure the quality and safety of citrus production. At cooperatives such as Cocalni, we remain vigilant regarding any issues that may affect the future of the countryside and our farmers.
