New large-scale theft of citrus fruits in Castellón

The citrus sector in the province of Castellón is once again the focus of concern following another large-scale theft in the municipality of Vila-real, where around 15,000 kilos of Hernandina oranges were stolen in the middle of the harvest season. According to Castellón Plaza, the theft was carried out in an organised manner and without causing visible damage to the farm, reinforcing the hypothesis that behind these events there are networks specialising in the theft and subsequent illegal sale of citrus fruits.

This type of crime not only causes significant economic damage to the farmers affected, but also jeopardises the sustainability of citrus farms and the stability of the sector as a whole. Agricultural organisations insist on the need to strengthen surveillance in the countryside and to take action against irregular sales channels that facilitate the sale of stolen fruit on the market.
