At Cocalni, we like to explain the characteristics of the different citrus varieties we work with. On this occasion, we would like to highlight the Chislett Summer Navel Orange, a variety from the Navel group that is at its optimum harvesting point.
Characteristics of the tree
The Chislett Summer Navel tree is vigorous and has similarities with the Washington Navel, from which it originates. It is common to find some thorns on the more vigorous branches, a characteristic to be taken into account during pruning and handling.
Description of the fruit
The fruits are round, with a not very visible navel on the outside, which gives them an attractive appearance for the market. They also stand out for their excellent organoleptic quality, offering a sweet and balanced flavour that satisfies the most demanding consumers.
Other relevant characteristics of the Chislett Summer Navel
One of the most significant advantages of the Chislett Summer Navel is its late ripening, which can be extended until the first half of May. This allows our partners to diversify and extend the marketing season for Navel oranges. Furthermore, this variety has a very good productivity and a quick entry into production, key aspects to optimise the profitability of the farms.
Originally from Australia, the Chislett Summer Navel is a mutation of the Washington Navel that has proven to be perfectly adapted to our climatic and growing conditions.
At Cocalni, we remain committed to innovation and continuous improvement, offering varieties that provide added value and respond to market demands. The Chislett Summer Navel Orange is a clear example of this.
