The drought and its impact on agriculture and livestock farming in the Valencia region

The Valencian Community is experiencing a drought that is seriously affecting rainfed agriculture and extensive livestock farming. This extreme climatic phenomenon has significantly reduced the availability of water, an essential resource for the cultivation of olive groves, wine and table grapes, almond trees and cereals.

Valencian farmers and livestock breeders are facing worrying challenges due to the lack of water. Decreasing rainfall and high temperatures have led to reduced harvests and deteriorating product quality.

In this context, La Unió Llauradora y Ramadera has taken measures to address the situation. The organisation has asked the Consell to implement aid and urgent measures to mitigate the effects of the drought. Among the proposals are the need to improve water management and provide financial support to affected farmers and livestock farmers to ensure the continuity of their activities.

The Consell has recognised the seriousness of the situation and is working on a contingency plan that includes measures such as optimising water use and investing in water infrastructure. These actions seek not only to alleviate the immediate effects of the drought, but also to prepare the region for future episodes of drought, which are expected to become more frequent due to climate change.
