Everything you need to know about the first varieties of the season
The beginning of the citrus season is just around the corner and in Cocalni we prepare to harvest the best mandarins. Throughout the year, our cooperative works to ensure that each piece of fruit reaches your table with the maximum freshness and quality. Although autumn is still awakening, September and October mark the beginning of the harvest of some of the most eagerly awaited varieties: the first mandarins.
The first mandarin varieties
At Cocalni, we are starting our campaign with four mandarin varieties that stand out both for their flavour and their earliness. These mandarins are usually the favourites in the first months of autumn due to their sweetness, juiciness and the touch of acidity that many people are looking for.
- Clemenrubi (September/October): This variety is one of the earliest, making it the perfect choice for mandarin lovers who can't wait. Its thin skin and easy peeling, together with a balanced sweet and sour flavour, make it ideal to eat at any time of the day.
- Oronules (September/October/November): With harvesting extended until November, the Oronules is known for its vibrant colour and exquisite juiciness. Its mild flavour and tender texture make it one of the most appreciated in both local and international markets.
- Loretina (September/October/November): Another early variety, the Loretina stands out for its intense sweetness and high juice content. Like the other varieties, its skin is thin and easy to peel, which makes it a perfect choice for the youngest members of the family.
- Marisol (September/October): This mandarin, also early, is characterised by its good balance between acidity and sweetness. Its bright orange colour and medium size make it very attractive, both in flavour and presentation.
Why eat mandarins in season?
Consuming mandarins in season not only ensures that you enjoy their best flavour and quality, but also supports local producers and contributes to sustainability. By buying fresh mandarins directly from cooperatives, such as Cocalni, you ensure that you are consuming a product grown to the highest quality standards, in harmony with the environment.
Mandarins are also a natural source of vitamin C, antioxidants and fibre, which makes them an ideal food for strengthening the immune system and maintaining a balanced diet.
When will you be able to enjoy these varieties?
Although the season is about to begin, it will not be until well into October when our mandarins will be at full capacity. However, in September you will be able to find the first Clemenrubi and Oronules in the markets, the ideal time to start enjoying the flavours of autumn!
